What Highly Targeted Visitors Can Do For Your Business

-By Jim Edwards, John Rooney, and David Nevogt
© 2006 Jim Edwards, John Rooney, and David Nevogt
    =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Today's online marketplace is changing as we speak. The"good old days" of placing a Simple advertisement on Google or Yahoo and getting highly targeted visitors to your site for a dime are ending.

The reality is that the internet, and especially the large flagship sites, have become a huge portal for people searching for free content - "lookers".

That's right - "lookers". People that will never buy yourproduct. Regardless of what kind of value you throw at them.

Know this - "lookers" can kill your business! Why wouldyou throw a large chunk of your advertising budget into achannel that prides itself on everything being "Free". Itdoesn't make any sense.

Why "lookers" exist, and what you can do about it.

"Lookers" exist, quite simply, because they have caught onto the fact that unless you are offering to deliver a product to their doorstep, they really don't have to pay for the information you provide.

Why do they feel this way? Because if you don't give them the information they are looking for, someone else will! That is a fact of increasing competition, and of selling information products on the internet. The hard truth isthat, it's only going to get worse. Sure these lookers, may sign up for your newsletter. Why not, it's FREE.

But when it really comes down to selling your product, you really have to do one of two things.

    1. Completely Stand out from the crowd. You have to offer a product so niched, and so different that the prospect can't get the information anywhere else. Leave them no choice but to purchase from you if they want theinformation.

    2. Realign your advertising budget to reach the people the WILL buy your product or service. Where do these prospects reside? Where else? They reside on existing niched sites, and here's your opportunity to make the really big bucks. Just think about this for a minute. Imagine that you are selling a book on how to coach little league baseball. Where are your better prospects going to reside?

Option 1: Google and Yahoo - No way! Everyone and theirmother is posting their opinions on these sites about howto coach little league baseball. Free content all over theplace.

Option 2: A Niched site such as http://www.littleleague.org/ - Of course you have betterprospects on this site to buy your book. First, you areriding on the reputation of probably the biggest little league site on the internet. Plus, you've surrounded your product with people that are most likely coaches, players,or parents that want to be coaches. The simple solution is to start advertising your producton niched sites such as the above example. More likely than not, it's not going to cost much more, but your overall site profitability is going to soar.

    When Entrepreneurs Experience Burnout

Lately after doing my daily blogging, answering emails, and planning new projects, I’ve become pretty drained. I’ll come home from the coffee shop (my office) and just plop down on the bed and fall asleep for a couple hours.

I’m asking myself - what the heck is going on? I’m feeling uninspired and unmotivated. Then it hit me after reading this article at LifeDev - I have slight burnout. I did take a day off on Saturday and did absolutely no blogging, but somehow that one day wasn’t enough.

I’m sure it’s something that most entrepreneurs go through. We get so caught up in our projects and just want to keep doing, doing, doing that we forget about everything else in our life.

I came across Elemental Truths where some tips are offered to avoid burnout:

    1. Keep introducing something new. Set new goals. Avoid mental drudgery.
    2. Build a network of support. Find colleagues with which you can let off a bit of steam.
    3. Concentrate on the positive things in your life (friends, family, hobby, etc.).
    4. Seek assistance. Ask for help when you need it. Knowing your limits is a true sign of professionalism.
    5. Examine your choices. You are not what you do. If the situation is desperate consider a professional change.
    6. Limit the hours you put in at work. Protect your "down time."
    7. Accept your limits. You cannot do it all. You are only one person.

What do you do to prevent burnout?

My Little Rant, Links, and Link Popularity...Lots of Tips!

I had something happen this week that has been boggling my mind for a few days now. I receive a comment from a reader at one of my blogs who, in essence, didn't like that I was linker to her. She basically called my blog a "link farm" and expressed her frusteration in my quoting her.

Ok, for one, a link farm is basically a page with a bunch of links and no content whatsoever. Let's get that clear first if you're wondering... Check out more definitions of link farm.

Second, don't you love getting links from websites that are related to your website? Links count as votes for your website, thus your website is ranked higher by the search engines, is it not? She told me that I was linking to her to increase my ranking....It's the other way around, sister...Which goes to show that one should do some homework about SEO before they point fingers.

Lastly, this blogger thought that I was using her ideas for the "benefit" of my blog. I'm still not quite sure exactly what she meant by this. My sole intention was to let my reader know about her post and I pointed out what I thought was important about her post. She tends to write lengthy posts and I like to get to the point. Perhaps she thought I was trying to make my blog look good by mentioning her name?

I'm not sure why I let her upset me... Ok, rant over.

Back to business...SEOBook has a great piece called "101 Ways to Build Link Popularity in 2006". A great read with some funny tidbits on what not to do when trying to create link popularity :)

Tips on Finding the Right Affiliate Program

When I first started online I would sign up for affiliate programs left and right and although I've calmed down some, I'm still attracted by promises of lots of money by certain programs. Resources and Advice on Staying Focused and Productive

Working for yourself takes quite a bit of discipline. We can easily be distracted by the phone or a friend wants to know if we could do them a “small favor”. That small favor turns into a whole day event. Next thing you know you haven’t accomplished a thing on your “To Do” list.
If you work at home, I’m sure that you can relate to what I’m saying.

What I’ve found that works for me is taking my laptop to one of the places that offers free wi-fi (don’t we love free wi-fi!) and setting a mental “timer” in my head of when I need to accomplish all my tasks by. The cell phone stays off and I’m completely focused.

Here are my favorite blog reads that are related to productivity in business and self-improvement:

Bonus: Check out this post at Entrepreneur Evolution... My favorite part:

“And you know what...the more success oriented people I meet, the more positive, life enhancing literature I read, the happier I become and the stronger I get, and the stronger I get, the more people I can help and the more positive energy I can release into the world. In this way I make the world a better place each and every day.”
